A claim can remain open while important deadlines continue to run. Delay review identifies what the insurer has requested, what has been supplied, what remains disputed and what formal next step is available.
Diagnose the source of delay
- Repeated document requests without a defined outstanding issue
- Unscheduled or repeatedly adjourned inspections
- Unresolved expert or cause-of-loss investigation
- EUO, proof-of-loss or cooperation requests
- Scope and pricing negotiations after coverage is acknowledged
- Mortgage, contractor or payment-authorization issues
Create a complete claim chronology
A dated chronology should record the loss, notice, inspections, submissions, requests, payments and follow-ups. Pair each event with the underlying email, letter, report or estimate so the remaining issues are visible.
Keep mitigating and documenting
The policyholder may still need to protect the property from further damage and maintain records of reasonable emergency work, temporary housing, storage or business expenses while the investigation continues.
