A complete first submission lets counsel identify the policy, carrier position, disputed amount and urgent deadlines without burying the central issue in an unorganized file.
Core documents for the first review
- Declarations page and the complete policy, including endorsements
- Denial, reservation-of-rights or coverage-position letter
- Carrier and contractor estimates, inventories and valuation reports
- Photographs, video and records showing the condition before and after the loss
- Police, fire, engineering, plumbing or other available reports
- Proof of purchase, appraisals, receipts and repair invoices
- Emails, letters and a dated log of calls with the insurer and adjusters
- Proof-of-loss forms, EUO requests, appraisal demands and any court papers
Create a one-page chronology
List the date of loss, notice, inspections, major submissions, document requests, statements or EUO, payments, denial and known deadlines. Link each entry to its supporting document if possible.
Use clear filenames
A consistent format—YYYY-MM-DD, sender or source, short description—makes a large claim record easier to review. Keep originals unchanged and work from copies.
